““May Allaah pardon you ˹O Prophet˺!” ﷺ

Allaah ﷿ said: “May Allaah pardon you ˹O Prophet˺! Why did you give them permission ˹to stay behind from jihad˺ before those who told the truth were distinguished from those who were lying?” Surah Tawbah 9:43
As-Samarqandī said: “If He had begun His address to the Prophet ﷺ by saying, “Why did you give them permission ˹to stay behind from jihad˺ …” it would have been feared that the Prophet’s heart would have burst open due to the mixture of fear and respect inspired by awe and reverence [haiba] of this Statement of Allaah’s, only that out of His Mercy, Allaah the Most High informed him ﷺ of His Pardon so that his heart ﷺ would settle and then after that He said, “Why did you give them permission ˹to stay behind from jihad˺ before those who told the truth were distinguished from those who were lying?””

Slipping Away

Shaikh Ṣalih al-Fawzān said, “We are not scared that this religion will [ever] be lost. What we are scared of is us ourselves slipping away from it and becoming lost. For we have no honour, no status, no value except through this great religion which Allaah blessed us with.”
