From Ibn ʿUmar رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ, “A man belched in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ so he said, ‘Withhold your belching from us. For indeed those who eat their fill most in the world will be the hungriest on the Day of Resurrection.’”
Abu Juhaifah [the Companion رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ in the above narration] said, “So I haven’t eaten my fill for thirty years.”

’Abdul-Waahid ibn Ziyaad said, “I heard Malik [ibn Deenaar] saying to Hawshab:
‘O Abaa Bishr! Take two things from me: don’t go to sleep at night while you’re full, and stop eating while you still want [to eat more of] the food.’
So Hawshab said to him, ‘O Abaa Yahya, this is the prescription of the doctors of this world.’
While both of these were talking Muhammad ibn Waasi’ was listening, so he then said, ‘Yes, and it is [also] the prescription given as the way of the people of the Hereafter.’
Upon which Maalik said, ‘Excellent! Excellent! The Hereafter and this world.’”

﷽
From Ibn ’Abbaas who used to bring ’Umar ibn al-Khattaab’s food to him, “He used to eat eleven mouthfuls, and then the same amount the next day.”
Kitaab Islaahul-Maal, no. 334.
From Ibn ’Abbaas who said, “I used to bring [Umar] Ibn al-Khattaab’s food to him, so I would count what he ate and it would come to eleven mouthfuls, [after eating them] he would clean his hand and not eat anymore, but they were large morsels/mouthfuls. So I asked the person who would prepare his food, ‘Does the Ameerul-Mu’mineen eat anything else apart from this?’ He said, ‘No, he eats the same amount as this the next day, unless he wants to fast in which case he will have the suhoor meal.’”

Ibn Baaz the Generous Teenager

“Shaikh Muhammad al-Musa said to me, ‘Shaikh Ibn Baaz had a relative whose name was Sa’d ibn ’Abdul-Muhsin and he was a hundred years old, His Eminence [Shaikh Ibn Baaz] used to say that this man was ten years older than him.
This [old] man told me about Shaikh [Ibn Baaz’s] generosity and that it was something implanted in his nature from when he was young, he said, ‘When Ibn Baaz was a teenager he would attend the lessons of His Eminence, the Shaikh, the ’Allaamah Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim, may Allaah have mercy on him. After the lesson would be over and he would be on his way home, if he would find someone on his way, a student of knowledge, or a stranger/foreigner [who was new to the area], or a guest, or a neighbour, then he would insist on him coming in and ask him to eat despite being poor and despite the sparsity of food [that he had].’
And he continued with his amazing generosity, may Allaah have mercy on him, for all his life and would in fact feel pain if he did not find guests to share his food with him.”

Ibn Baaz on Throwing Leftovers Away
April 4, 2013 § Leave a comment
Questioner: Regarding leftover food, some people put it in a carton or something similar and then place it in the street so the animals can eat it but then the cleaners come and place it along with the rest of the rubbish. The question is whether it is permissible to put the food with the garbage?
Ibn Baaz: It must be given to the poor who can eat it if they can be found, if they cannot be found then it must be left in a place far from where it will be mistreated so that the animals can eat it, if that is not possible then it must be stored in a carton or plastic bags etc., and those responsible in each city’s municipality should place it in clean areas so that the animals can eat it or so that people can take it for their animals, [this should be done] in order to safeguard the food from being debased and wasted.

Uthaimeen on Not Wasting Ramadaan Looking for Different Types of Food and Being Excessive
July 27, 2012 § Leave a comment
Shaikh Uthaimeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, said, “If the people have no concern except to have a variety of food, to sleep during the day, and to talk during the night about things which will not benefit them–then there is no doubt that this is a squandering of a priceless opportunity which may not come again to that person in his lifetime. So the resolute man is the one who progresses in Ramadaan according to [an amount of] sleep that is fitting at the first part of the night, and by standing to pray in Tarawih, and standing to pray at the end of the night if he can, and likewise he is not excessive in his food or drink.”
