Bad Thoughts

Shaikh ’Uthaimeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, said, “From Allaah’s Blessings is that if a person doesn’t lean towards or firmly establish what he thinks about [i.e., the bad thoughts one has], he will not be called to account over them no matter how severe they are. But if the Devil does throw such whisperings into your heart then your stance is to cure them through two things the Prophet ﷺ mentioned, the first is to seek refuge with Allaah from the Accursed Devil, and the second is to terminate and turn away from that [evil thought] which occurred to you.”

Sharh al-Kaafiyah ash-Shaafiyah, vol. 1, p. 373.
